The Kingdom of Giant Baobabs & Massive Elephant Herds
Tarangire National Park covers 2,850 square kilometers and is famous for its iconic skyline dotted with ancient African baobab trees and one of the largest elephant populations in Northern Tanzania. During the dry season (June to October), the life-giving Tarangire River becomes a vital permanent water source, drawing elephants, wildebeest, zebras, buffalo, and predators to its banks.
Each season brings a different character to the park. The dry months concentrate wildlife along the river and around shrinking waterholes, while the green season transforms the plains and swamps into lush habitat for resident animals and migratory birds. The Silale Swamps, open grasslands, riverine woodland, and baobab-dotted hills offer varied scenery throughout a game drive.
Tarangire is an excellent choice for a day trip from Arusha or as part of a longer Northern Circuit safari with Lake Manyara, Ngorongoro, and Serengeti. Alongside its famous elephants, visitors may spot lions, leopards, giraffes, uncommon antelope, and more than 550 bird species. A local guide can tailor the route to your dates, interests, and pace.
